AKC Tracking Test (TD/TDX) 10/29/2017
About The Event
AKC Tracking is a sport that demonstrates a dog’s natural ability to recognize and follow a scent. Unlike obedience and rally trials, where dogs respond to the handler’s commands, in tracking the dog is completely in charge, for only he knows how to use his nose to find and follow the track.
In these events, any breed or mix can demonstrate useful and potentially life-saving capabilities to follow an aged human track and locate articles dropped by the tracklayer. While the sport of tracking is not canine search and rescue (SAR) work, tracking is considered a foundation element in SAR training and a valuable way to assess a dog’s skill in scentwork and their ability to remain “on track” amid distractions including wildlife, vehicular, bicycle, horse and pedestrian traffic.
